Hydrocyclones were invented in the late 1800s and became widely used in mineral processing because they are relatively inexpensive, process high volumes, take up minimal floor space and have no moving parts.
A Hydrocyclone, or more commonly referred to as a cyclone, is simply a configured pipe tee. It requires certain elements in its design in order to perform a separation of material based on size gradation, but a Hydrocyclone is straightforward.
Hydrocyclone tank is consisted with a upper hollow cylinder and a lower inverted cone, besides this, a feeding pipe, overflow pipe and sand settling outlet.
The slurry enters into the hydrocyclone, under a certain pressure of slurry pump (normally 0.5~2.5kg/cm) and flow rate (about 5~12m/s), and centrifugal force created by spinning. Under the force of centrifugal and gravity, the coarse and heavy particles thrown out.
